We had to make one more trip to Blueberry Hills Farm & Restaurant before leaving the Lake Chelan area for our next destination—this time for lunch. 🍽️ I tried Kari’s Tomato Bisque and WOWZA! Absolutely delicious! 🍅🧄 Todd likes to try Chicken Fried Steak everywhere we go, and this was no exception. He gave Blueberry Hills a shot and loved it. He could only eat half, and the rest became breakfast the next day. There was no skimping on portions! 😋🥩

And try as we might, we could not resist one more goodie—their extra-large, extra-yummy blueberry muffin served with a helping of warm blueberry sauce! Yes, I had to put in some extra steps for that one! 🚶‍♀️ We even got a hot tip from the staff: take out a scoop of muffin from the top and pour in the sauce before heating it up. De-licious!

Absolutely worth the extra steps!

A Scenic Ride to Winthrop, WA
After our amazing meal, we stopped by the trailer to grab Rascal for our journey to Winthrop, Washington. 🐾 The drive through the Methow Valley along the North Cascades Scenic Byway was absolutely breathtaking and well worth the hour-long trip. 🌲🛣️

Winthrop is an adorable town with an old west feel—think wooden boardwalks, vintage-style signage, and charming storefronts straight out of a frontier movie. 🤠 With a population of just over 500 (as of 2020), it has a peaceful, laid-back vibe that we loved. Rascal enjoyed all the new sniffs at the doggy park 🐶💚 and I appreciated that they had a supply of poop bags—such a thoughtful touch! We always carry our own, but it's nice to grab an extra or two when you can.

After that, we took a stroll through town, window-shopped a bit, and of course, I picked up my mandatory stickers for my travel journal. 🛍️📒 Since we’re traveling in the off-season, a few shops were closed until tourist season picks back up—but that’s just fine by us. We much prefer the quiet to the crowds! 😌

Things to Keep in Mind 💡
One thing to keep in mind when you're traveling is cost. 💵 We’re finding that gas prices in Washington are almost a dollar more per gallon than in Arizona, and when you visit remote areas, they can jump up another 20 cents or so. 🛢️ The cost of groceries and restaurant meals can also be higher in these remote spots, mostly due to the added cost of trucking supplies in. So just a heads-up to plan ahead and budget a little extra when venturing off the beaten path.

I was able to grab my mandatory sticker at Winthrop's only gas station  (at least the only one we saw) and ask about their crazy wall of chocolate bars!  Not your average chocolate for sure.

A Bit of Winthrop History
Winthrop isn’t just cute—it’s got some serious history, too! 🏔️📜 The town traces its roots back to the gold rush days of the 1880s, and in the 1970s, locals gave it a full Old West-style makeover to attract visitors traveling the newly opened North Cascades Highway. That’s why today it feels like stepping into a rustic Western movie set—but with espresso, art galleries, and dog parks. 😉🤠🎨 Whether you're into outdoor adventures, charming shops, or just soaking in the vibe, Winthrop is a sweet little stop worth adding to your road trip list.
